And I live in a small town
Prob'ly die in a small town
Oh, those small communities
Unfortunately one of the things I remember the most, is how hesitant they were to leave that town! It was sorta like a "box" that kept them hemmed in their entire lives. They wouldn't come to Tulsa to visit because "It's too big over there, too many weirdo's, too much traffic, too far to drive..." (According to Google Maps the drive is aprox. 30 min and 21 miles!) Isn't it sad that due to years of wrong thinking they never experienced anything out side of their "box?" Some of them never left the comfort zone of that small town. Now there were a few "rebels" in that clan that went to college, got jobs in other parts of the state & even visited other places. But the majority lived and died in that small town! It reminds me of that John Cougar song.
God wants us to get out of our box! He wants us out of our comfort zone! He has big plans for us that extend beyond anything we have ever experienced or imagined! Look at Isaiah 54:2-3 "Enlarge the site of your tent, and stretch out the drapes of your dwellings; don’t hold back. Lengthen your tent ropes and strengthen your stakes. To the right and to the left you will burst out, and your children will possess the nations’ land and settle their desolate cities."
God's plans for us are for good and not evil, to bring us a future and a hope! (Jeremiah 29:11) His plans ALWAYS include us reaching out to others with His love. As long as you stay in the "box" or in your comfort zone you will not be able to fulfill His plan for your life. Decide to kick the walls of the box out! Push yourself out of that comfort zone and do something BIG today!
